We're searching for short-term Onshore and Offshore Fishing Liaison Officers (FLOs) to support upcoming Geophysical and Geotechnical Surveys in Trinidad and Tobago. Fishing Liaison Officers (FLO) will be required to:Provide information and advice on fisheries and different fishing practices in the waters of Trinidad and Tobago, including identification of fishing vessels, distinguishing between vessel types, fishing gear and fishing vessel activityCommunicate directly with fishers and operators of fishing and other vessels who may require more information about survey operations and maintain a positive working relationship for all operating vessels in the survey areaPost marine advisories and maritime notices on fishing notice boards, distribute survey documents to stakeholders and act as the liaison between fishers and the survey teamSummarize the day's activities as observed in the survey area and identify strategies for maintaining safe operations and harmony with fishers and other vesselsRequirements:Understanding of at-sea protocols on vessels as well as fishing operations, fisheries, types of vessels and gear used, and the nature of specific fishery operations in the survey areaWorking experience as a fisher, fisheries observer or fisheries scientist and proven knowledge of fisheries related to the area to be surveyedStrong communication skills and training in at-sea radio communications, safety at sea, navigation, report writing and basic computer skills. Secondary school level education will be an assetAbility to work on a shift rotation of 4-6 weeks on and 4-6 weeks off the vessel for the offshore positionCompletion of safety and relevant training courses. Certification in Personal Survival Techniques (TBOSIET) is a mandatory requirement for the offshore FLO positions. Training in First Aid and Radio Communications will be an asset
